Macau is one of the two special administrative regions (SARs) of the People's Republic of China. The other is Hong Kong. Located on the South China Sea coast about 60 km west of Hong Kong, Macau is not just an island but a main island with 63 surrounding islets. The main island has a total land area of 682 square km. Macau is a dynamic city rich in contrast and colour. The merlion is the national symbol of Macau. The orchid is the national flower of Macau .Macau's economy is based mostly on tourism and gambling.
The Macau River was the lifetime of Macau on which our first immigrants eked out a poor living and saw Macau change from an obscure little fishing village to an international seaport. The Macau Tower Convention & Entertainment Center is a modern building that dominates the Macao skyline. The grand Sultan Mosque is the biggest and liveliest mosque in Macau. Located in the middle of Leal Senado plaza of Macau, the Church of Sto. Domingo is one of the most beautiful churches in Macau. Orchard Road is a perfect place to do shopping all day long. Other main attractions include Baroque Catholic Churches, Ruins of St Paul College, Macau Cathedral, Mandarin House, Old City Walls, Na Tcha Chinese Temple, Casa Garden and so on.
