About Frankfurt in Germany

Located along the Main River in the centre of Germany, Frankfurt the fifth largest city in the country, after Berlin, Hamburg, Munich and Cologne. It is now a center of commerce, finance, industry and transportation. Frankfurt is the home to Frankfurt Stock Exchange and numerous commercial banks, including the Bundesbank, Germany's central bank and the European Central Bank. Frankfurt International Airport is one of the largest and busiest in Europe.

Frankfurt is a modern city full of contrast. Frankfurt´s modern skyscrapers dominate the city's skyline. The Commerzbank Tower is nearly 300 meters tall, which is the highest building in Europe. Other skyscrapers are the Twin Towers of the Deutsche Bank, Silver Tower, MesseTurm, Kronenhochhaus and Trianon. Built in 1880, Alte Oper is Frankfurt's famous opera house. The Oper Frankfurt is one of the leading opera houses in the world. Frankfurt hosts many festivals, fairs, and carnivals each year. Poetry lovers will have a chance to pay a visit to Goethe House, which is the birthplace of Germany´s greatest poet - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Museum-Riverbank-Festival is one of the biggest cultural festivals in Germany. Other tourist attractions include Senckenberg Natural History Museum, Schirn Art Gallery, Staedel, and the Gothic Church of St. Bartholomew.
