Located on the Adige River, amongst the rolling plains of the Veneto, Lake Garda and the Dolomite mountains,
Verona is thecapital of Verona province in Northern Italy. It is a major industrial and agricultural center and a transportation hub. Verona has been a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Verona is a historic city. Nowadays, it has a population of around 260,000 residents. Generally speaking, The city of Verona enjoys a temperate climate.
Verona boast its many historical buildings and monuments. Well known as "the Arena", this ancient Roman amphitheatre is now used for opera house. Built in the 1st century BC, Roman theatre is one of the oldest Roman monuments. Like many other Veronese churches, San Zeno Basilica was built with alternating layers of white stone and bricks, which is regarded as one of the great achievements of Romanesque architecture. The Gothic Church of Sant' Anastasia is a huge church which was built during 13th century and 15th century. Other attractions include the castle and bridge of the Scaligeri, the Balcony of Juliet, Loggia del Consiglio, the Giusti Gardens and the Romanesque cathedral.
