About Amsterdam in Netherlands

Located on the IJ bay and the Amstel river, in the province of North Holland, Amsterdam is the capital and largest city of the Netherlands. Well known as the "Venice of the North", Amsterdam consists of 90 islands, which are connected by 400 stone bridges across 100 kilometres of canals. It is now one of the most important financial, commercial, intellectual, cultural and artistic centers of Europe. The population of Amsterdam is about 750,000. Amsterdam has a moderate humid climate.

Known as one of the most romantic and beautiful cities in Europe, Amsterdam boasts itself from canals to renowned museums and historical sights. The main canals include Prinsengracht, Herengracht, Keizersgracht and Singel. The canals play an important part in transportation of the city. There are around 50 Museums in Amsterdam. The Rijksmuseum houses around 7 million works amd a number of outstanding masterpieces by international artists. Van Gogh Museum has a fine collection of Van Gogh's paintings. Other main museums are the National Maritime Museum, Anne Frank's House, the Stedelijk Museum, Rembrandt House Museum and so on. The Oude Kerk Church with the Gothic-renaissance style octagonal bell tower is one of the oldest church in the city. Located on the Singel Canal, the Bloemenmarkt is world-famous floating flower market. A tour to Holland is not complete without a visit to Amsterdam Windmills. Other tourist attractions include Artis Zoo, Magere Brug,Begijnhof and Vondelpark.
