Located at the southern tip of Pegasus Bay, Christchurch is the third largest city of New Zealand, after Auckland , Wellington. Christchurch is also well known as the “Garden City of the Plains” , because the land is full of numerous parks and gardens. Lyttelton is an important port of the city. It is now an important centre of industry, manufacturing and tourism of New Zealand. Christchurch has a temperate climate all year around.

Christchurch Botanic Gardens has large collections of autochthonous and exotic plants in New Zealand. The Avon River is an important natural landmark in Christchurch. As another major landmark of Christchurch, Cathedral Square is situated at the heart of the city centre, opposite Christ Church cathedral. The historic Christchurch Tramway is the oldest working tramway in the world. The Bridge of Remembrance, which is a stone structure, was built in the 1920s in the honour of soldiers from Canterbury who lost their lives during World War I. It is home to the University of Canterbury, Christ's College, and Lincoln University. Other tourist attractions include the Christchurch Art Gallery, Christchurch Gondola, Hagley Park, Willowbank Wildlife Reserve and International Antarctic Centre.
