About Bergen in Norway

Situated on the southwest coast of Norway, Bergen is the second largest city of the country, after Oslo. Well known as "City Between the Seven Mountains", Bergen is an old city with one thousand years history. Its economy is mainly based on manufacturing, fishing and shipbuilding. It is now an important cultural, educational and medical center of Norway. It has a population of around 230,000 residents.

Bergen is rich in culture heritage and attractions. The Hanseatic Museum is housed in one of the oldest and well-preserved wooden buildings in Bryggen, the former home of a wealthy merchant during the Middle Ages. Bryggens Museum houses various artifacts and traditional costumes. St Mary's Church, with the twin towers on its roof, is the beautiful Romanesque stone Church. Bryggen is the site of the old medieval quarter, where locates many wooden buildings. Rosenkrantz Tower is combinatorial residence and fortified tower of Bergen. Other attractions include Fantoft Stave Church, Bryggens Museum, Bergen Fish Market and Haakon's Hall.
