About Cape Town in South Africa

Located on Table Bay in the southwest part of the country, Cape Town is the capital of Western Cape province and the legislative capital of South Africa. Cape Town is one of the world's most beautiful cities because of its unique geography. With a population of about 3 million, Cape Town is a part of the metropolitan municipality of the City of Cape Town. It is now an important commercial and industrial center of the region, as well as a chief port on the Atlantic Ocean. Cape Town has a typically Mediterranean climate with four distinct seasons.

Cape Town has a wealth of attractions. Table Mountain is one of South Africa's most famous landmarks, forming a park which is home to a large number of plants and animals. Cape Point is another world renowned landmark of the city, where the lighthouse was built along the South African coast. The Victoria & Alfred Waterfront is most visited destination in the city. The Artscape Theatre Centre is a major performing arts venue in the city. The Castle of Good Hope is a beautifully restored fortress built in 1666, which is the oldest surviving building in South Africa. The Old Town House has a collection of 17th-century Flemish and Dutch paintings. Surrounded by pine forest, Rhodes Memorial was built in honour of Cecil John Rhodes. Other popular tourist attractions include the Dutch Reformed church, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens and Robben Island Museum.
