About Bilbao in Spain
Situated in the north of Spain, Bilbao is the capital of Biscay province and six largest city in the country. Bilbao has a long and rich history. The city is renowned for its shipbuilding history. It is now a center of commerice, finance, and industry of the region. Bilbao is the most populous city in Basque Country, with a population of about 380,000 residents. Bilbao has an oceanic climate, with generally mild weather all the year round.
Bilbao is an old city full of plenty of museums, churches and monuments. The Santiago Cathedral is a good example of baroque style architecture. The Basque Museum & Cultural Center is the focal point of the Basque Community. Built on the site of a former shipyard, the world famous Guggenheim Museum is an architectural masterpiece, housing a huge fine collection of modern art by famous artists such as Picasso, Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, Robert Motherwell and so on.
The Teatro Arriaga opera house is a magnificent building in the Old Town, which was was built in Neoclassical style in late 19th century. The Bizkaia Bridge is the most important monument of Bilbao, which was first added on UNESCO World Heritage List.
