About Madrid in Spain

Located by the river Manzanares bank in the heart of the Iberian Peninsula, Madrid is the capital and largest city of Spain. The city is commercial, financial and industrial center of Spain. With a population of more than 4 million, it is the third most populous city in the European Union. It is now the political and economic centre of the country. Madrid has temperate continental climate, characterized by warm dry summers and cool winters.

Madrid is a cosmopolitan city that houses numerous museums and monuments, as well as historical buildings. The Prado Museum is the largest and most famous art museum in Spain, housing a large number of renowned paintings like "The Maids of Honor" (1656) by Diego Velazques and other famous artists including El Greco, Velazquez, Goya, Peter Paul Rubens, Hieronymus Bosch and so on. The Royal Palace of Madrid is a towery architecture that has already 250 years of history. It is regarded as the finest palaces in Europe. The Almudena Cathedral is next to the Royal Palace, which is a Catholic cathedral in Madrid. Built in the 15th century, Manzanares El Real Castle is one of the best-preserved fortresses in the city of Madrid. The Plaza Mayor is a grand arcaded square in the center of the city. Other tourist attractions include Gran Via, Monasterio del Escorial, Cibeles, Monasterio del Escorial, Puerta del Sol and National Archeological Museum.
