About Lausanne in Switzerland
Built on three hills along the Lake of Geneva, Lausanne is the capital of Vaud canton in western Switzerland. The city covers an area amongst vineyards, fir forests and fluctuant countryside. Lausanne has a very rich history. Due to its geographical feature, it is one of the greenest cities in the world. Lausanne is home to the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee. Lausanne enjoys a temperate climate.
Lausanne is home to the famous Gothic Cathedral of Notre Dame and many fine museums.
The Notre Dame Cathedral is the largest church in Switzerland. Main museums include Olympic Museum, Hermitage Foundation, and Historical Museum. Town Hall of Lausann is the place where the acts ensuring the establishment of the international administrative centre and archives of the modern Olympic movement were signed on 10 April 1915. Other tourist attractions are Saint Francois church, Castle St-Marie, and Benedictine Monastery Church of Saint Pierre.
