About Istanbul in Turkey

Situated on a peninsula at the mouth to the Black Sea, Istanbul is capital of Istanbul province and the largest city of Turkey. It is a chief seaport of Turkey, and its commercial, industrial, and financial center. The city is divided by the Bosphorus Strait with European Istanbul to the west and Asian Istanbul to the east. The city of Istanbul is Turkey 's most populous city, with a population of around 8.8 million. Istanbul has a subtropical climate, with hot, humid summers and cold, rainy winters.

Istanbul boasts its long rich history, with large number of historical sites and monuments. The Hagia Sophia is the most magnificent amongst the Byzantine churches. Also known as the Blue Mosque, the Sultanahmet Mosque is one of Istanbul's most famous landmarks. The Hippodrome is one of the most impressive Roman architecture in Constantinople. Also known as the Old Palace, the Topkapi Palace houses some pavilion-type buildings like Hagia Irene. The Golden Horn is one of the best natural harbors in the world. Other tourist attractions include the Greek Orthodox Church, Suleiman Mosquem, Sunken Palace and Grand Bazaar.
