About Phoenix in the USA
Located on the upper edge of the Sonoran Desert, in the southwestern of the United States, Phoenix is Arizona’s capitol and the sixth largest city in the United States. Phoenix has a population of 1.6 million people. Phoenix has some 300 sunny days on average annually, making it one of the most pleasant tourist destinations to be in the USA. Nowadays, Phoenix is also an agricultural, industrial and service center.
There are many tourist attractions in the Phoenix area. The unique Heard Museum houses more than 32,000 pieces of cultural and fine art and the famous Barry Goldwater collection of Kachina Dolls. Chase Field is the only facility in the world that combines a retractable roof, air conditioning and a natural turf field. The Desert Botanical Garden has one of the world's finest collections of desert plants. Piestewa Peak, well known as Squaw Peak, is part of the Phoenix Mountains Preserve. The Boyce Thompson Arboretum has approximately 3,200 different desert plants coming from the world. The Phoenix Zoo is one of the youngest zoos in the USA and is a privately owned, nonprofit zoo. Covering over 16,000 acres, South Mountain Park and Preserve is considered as the largest municipal park in the USA. There are more than 50 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. Other main attractiolns are Montezuma Castle, Tuzigoot and Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin West.
